The Sin of Self-Focus

Paul Kiefte

When Jesus healed the paralysed man at the pool of Bethesda He resolved what the invalid believed was his biggest problem, his inability to walk. Later, when Jesus met him again in the Temple, He spoke to Him about his sin, which was in fact his real problem and what stopped him recognising who Jesus was. Jesus could help the man walk again, but only he could choose to stop being self focused and set his gaze on Jesus who was standing right in front of him. Through this Biblical narrative we see the sin of self-focus and how it can keep us from living in the fulness of God.
